A long time ago, I made a mixtape called The Inspiration on a site called Muxtape. Well, Muxtape was forced to change into something completely different, and I never really uploaded a copy of those songs to the site for download. The mix at the time featured my favorite uplifting/inspirational rap songs.

And well it was really good…good enough that I wanted to share those songs with you again, plus a few extras. They’re all some thought provoking, I can listen to this while I do something that requires thought type songs. Pretty soulful, smooth/mellow, and all rather good if I do say so myself.

I also kinda wanted to do something for the official launch of the .com adaptation of Cookin Wit Grease, and as it seems I’m somewhat stable now, I figured I take it back to the chick with the Lexus what it was about from the beginning. Spreading good music and a few laughs to those who visit my site. So download, enjoy, and tell a friend.

Oh yeah and it’s FALL! I’m just tryna set the mood for my favorite season…let’s get get get it.

Like I’ve mentioned before, I’m out here in Saint Louis and everybody not from here has their opinions of what STL music is like. The only people we really know outside the Lou is Nelly, Jibbs, Huey, and Chingy…and most of those cats people don’t really take seriously.

But honestly, STL has a lot of talented artists here….which is why I was excited when I saw this mixtape. I always hear these songs on the club broadcasts at night, and they’re all harder to find than a meaningful conversation on Twitter.

Anyhow, take a listen to the sample tracks below and download the tape if you so choose. At the very least, it’s good ridin music. 39 tracks and 45 artists on the tape…first half of the tape is my fav. These are all club tracks for the most part, but this isn’t Saint Louis has to offer either.  STL has good music in general but I knew somebody would have somethin to say if I made that “good music” statement with just these tracks.

Today, was just one of those days I sometimes have where I just like to zone out the world and listen to music for long periods of time. Some kinda way, I ended up listening to Outkast’s entire Aquemini album, and in the process I started listenin to Goodie Mob. I told a friend this and their response was, “What’s Goodie Mob?”

As puzzled as I was that someone could have never heard of Goodie Mob, living in New York and originally being from Atlanta has taught me that we have certain regional boundaries when it comes to music. Someone growing up in New York may have never even heard some of the artists I grew up on, the music that I largely consider to have helped shaped who I am as a person today, just as I had never heard a lot of the reggae, dancehall, and soca that I heard once I got up here.

So today’s hip hop tutorial mix is just a glimpse into my Southern childhood. Now I’m an 80s baby, but I grew up in the 90s. ‘92 marks what I consider the start of my childhood. So don’t be mad at me if I don’t get your hits in there. Some of MY favorite songs and artists most of which are from the ‘95 to ‘98 time period. My favorite, not the best. Just a disclaimer.
